Workshop Home

The Berlecon Workshop on the Economics of Information Technology aims at improving the understanding of the economic aspects of information technology and its role in our economy. The workshop not only covers IT in the strict sense but also includes communication technologies, which increasingly converge with traditional IT.

Such an understanding can only be achieved by considering technological as well as economic aspects. The workshop therefore brings together experts with various backgrounds from institutions like academia, industry, and policy. Each year the workshop focuses on a single topic, which is analysed in its different facets. In 2003 the workshop topic is: E-Business: Economic Impact and Policy Implications.

For this workshop e-business is defined rather broadly: It includes the use of ICT to improve all sorts of business processes, on the sell-side and buy-side of companies as well as internally and for its cooperation with partners. The focus is on those aspects of e-business that are of relevance to and pose challenges for economic policy rather than only for individual enterprises.

Selected research results are presented and discussed in an informal but thorough way. The workshop leaves ample room for additional dialogue between participants. The workshop will take place in Berlin, Germany on June 13-14, 2003.

The workshop program can be found here.
